2017 TINTONEGRO MALBEC, LIMESTONE BLOCK
At an elevation of 4,000’, at the very foot of the majestic Andes, soils have a marked limestone character – from patches of rocky surface soil to a shallow sub soil of round rocks. These Limestone Lots impart a mineral texture to the wines produced here.
Malbec has a wonderful affinity for co-fermentation – vinifying with small amounts of Cabernet Franc intensifies Malbec’s floral character while the limestone soil profile lends finely grained tannins.
TINTONEGRO, meaning “black wine” in Spanish, is meant to celebrate the essence of Malbec in Mendoza. Known for its dark, blackish color, Malbec is definitely a TintoNegro.
Limestone Block Malbec is a co-fermentation of Malbec and Cabernet Franc from Los Chacayes in the Valle de Uco. There are notes of black fruit and violets, juicy tannins and a soft and approachable palate with integrated acidity and good harmony. Here the tannins are the signature of the wine, with a chalky sensation despite the approachable overall character it has. 50,000 bottles produced.”
