An aromatic, dry style Sauvignon of real class.5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2020 (2020 Vintage)
"It's powerfully expressed on the nose showing green rockmelon, grapefruit, feijoa and lemon peel aromas, leading to a wonderfully bright palate that's filled with attractive flavours. It's pristine and persistent, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now 2023."
Originally a sheep farm these days Starborough, owned and operated by the Jones family, are producers of award winning Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
Jones brothers Andrew and James run the gig, they’re the “Sons of the Soil”. Andrew carries the family farming tradition with crops and livestock. Viticulturist James runs the wine side of things with some help from a pretty on to it winemaker called David Clouston (he’s also the winemaker from Two Rivers and Black Cottage).
Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has bright, lively flavours of fresh passionfruit and gooseberries along with fresh herbs and nuances of cut grass and nettles. The fruit has good intensity. The palate has fine, dry phenolic texture along with crisp, refreshing, mouthwatering acidity.
The wine flows positively to an elegant, lingering finish of gooseberries and herbs.
This is a refreshing, lively and bright passionfruity and gooseberry flavoured Sauvignon Blanc with herb and cut grass notes on a fine-textured palate.
Serve with seafood and Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years.
Fruit from 50% ‘O’Dwyers Farm’, 30% ‘Long Lane Vineyard’ and 20% ‘Starborough Terrace’, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. 17.5+/20
