Details

A blend of 60% Negroamaro, 35% Primitivo and 5% Malvasia Nera.

Production: The grapes come from selected vineyards harvested at the beginning of October, to allow the grapes to have increased maturation. After pressing the wine undergoes a long maceration on the skins to extract as much richness as possible. The wine is matured for 3-4 months in oak before being bottled.

Tasting notes: Rich and inviting, lots of ripe and dried fruits, such as plums and raisins. Dark chocolate and black pepper spice. Full bodied, mouth filling and velvety, sweet dark fruit balanced with some bramble characters and welcomed tannins. Very easy drinking.

Food and wine pairing: Can most certainly be drunk on its own, but works well with roast meats and winter stews. A wine for mature hard cheeses.

Not what it used to be Review by Steve

A year or two ago, this wine was extracted, full-bodied, with layers of sweet fruits from the "appassimento" (or "ripasso") style of winemaking. This 2015 vintage is no where near the yummy roundness in fruit and weight. Very disappointing. I am guessing the economy is tanking, so the patience and quality are out of the window. Reminiscent of a Californian zinfandel. Jammy, full bodied loveliness. (Posted on 18/03/2015)
